Review of MyPoints.com

I was attracted to the online survey site MyPoints.com by the headlines they posted such as MAKE MONEY WITH MY POINTS and EARN GIFT CARDS AND CASH.  The site has ways to earn points to be able to receive gift cards from popular businesses.  I've been going to the site for about three weeks and I am not impressed with it.

For some reason they say I don't qualify for the surveys I attempt to take.  This could be because they already have the number of surveys from my age and gender that they need completed, but it's very tiresome to spend time answering lots of questions and get little to zero points for it.  There are other activities to earn points for rewards but they don't seem to work well either.

Points can be earned simply for watching video play lists but at the present time the web pages for that are listed as not secure.  Some of the other things available to earn reward gift cards with, are shopping online, printing coupons, and doing online searches.  Doing the online searches for points is only like an instant win sweepstakes type situation.  It's possible to win a few points for a search but it's more likely that zero points will be received for the Internet searches.

I've only been using www.MyPoints.com for three weeks but the impression I am getting is that it is too much trouble to keep using as it is so hard to get points. I am going to keep trying it for awhile longer to see if they actually send the gift cards out when someone tries to redeem points.   Right now I think using www.MyPoints.com is a waste of time for most people.

CHARIOT on the MOUNTAIN by Jack Ford

Book Review by Jennifer Anderson

CHARIOT on the MOUNTAIN is a fictional story based on the real life of Kitty Payne.  She was a young, multiracial, freed slave woman who had to fight for her rights in American Court before the Civil War years.  The story goes through the in and outs of plantation and farm life of slaves in the early 1800's.  Kitty's own mother had been sold away from her when she was very small and so she was determined this would not happen to her own three little ones.  The story explains very well how people can be free but still kept from opportunity by the color of their skin.  The title, CHARIOT on the MOUNTAIN, is taken from a line in a  negro spiritual song.

The story touches on the subjects of runaway slaves, freed slaves being kidnapped, and the organization called the Underground Rail Road that helped people escape from slavery.  The author, Jack Ford, came across Kitty's story at an old courthouse one day and decided to investigate and share her story.  Way before civil rights activists such as Rosa Parks, there was Kitty Payne.

I had received this book as an advance reading copy via a giveaway on the Goodreads website.  I liked the story for it's fast pace.  I also liked the story for it's short chapters that served to keep the action and drama neatly contained in an easily managed format for quick comprehension of the subject matter. I enjoyed the book and I read it through in my spare moments in a 24 hour time period.  That means I actually stayed up late and got up early to read it.  I gave the story five stars on the Goodreads website and think that it would make a great movie.

The book will be published this July 31st!

SUNDAY STEALING:

Oh these hypothetical
questions that reveal
what you think!

WOULD YOU RATHER MEME (Part One)
stolen from sign up genius

Would you rather have more time or more money?  Assuming they mean free time, right now I would rather have more money.

Would you rather go into the past and meet your ancestors or into the future and meet you great-great grandchildren?  Ancestors

Would you rather have a rewind button or a pause button on your life?  Pause

Would you rather be able to speak with the animals or speak all foreign languages?  I'm allergic to animals so I would rather speak all foreign languages.  Besides which, I am really into words.

Would you rather win the lottery or live twice as long?  I can't answer this one, there are too many loose variables to be taken into consideration.  If we don't know how short or long we are going to live how could we choose.  If we were going to live 4o years then maybe we would choose to live twice as long.  If we were going to live 120 years we might choose the lottery option.

Would you feel worse if no one came to your wedding or if no one came to your funeral? I am not a funeral person.  If I don't go to your funeral, then you don't have to go to mine.

Would you rather be without the internet for a week or without your phone? Internet

Would you rather meet George Washington or the current president?  I would rather meet the current president.  I don't think George Washington and I would have much to talk about.

Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing?  Neither one.

Would you rather work more hours per day but less days per week?
Yes, on a flexible basis.

Would you rather listen to music from the 70's or music today?  I listen to music from today more often then music from the 70's, so I guess that would be the answer; Today

Would you rather become someone else or just stay you? Me, myself and I.

Would you rather be batman or spider man?  Well if I absolutely had to choose one of them, I would pick batman.  I would rather drive. My brother and I use to watch batman when we were little, the original TV series.  The female characters of batgirl and cat woman were very intriguing to me as a little girl.

Would you rather be stuck on a broken ski lift or a broken elevator?
NO....?

For your birthday would you rather receive cash or gifts? No special preference.

...end of part one

Happy Sunday and have a great day of  rest!

"Just Say No" or Pass the Herb?

by Jennifer Anderson

Considerable time and expense has been used to educate America's young to not use drugs.  Yet now there is a great possibility that non medical use of marijuana will be decriminalized.  Use of Marijuana has already become so common in American culture that the public perception of using Marijuana seems to be that it is benign or a safe drug to use.

Like the proverbial adage that it is impossible to compare apples to oranges as they are two very different fruits, it is also impossible to compare recreational marijuana use to casual consumption of alcohol as they are two very different drugs.  Marijuana does not have more pleasant side effects then alcohol it just has different side effects then alcohol.  It is not any safer to drive high then it is to drive while drunk.

Sure there are lots of "good people" who use or have used marijuana.  However if we stop and ask ourselves would we want our babysitters or surgeons to use marijuana on a casual basis the answer would be no.  I am sure most people also wouldn't want their mother, their bus driver, or their kids to use marijuana on a regular basis.  For myself, I know I definitely wouldn't want the mother of my grandchildren to  use marijuana during pregnancy.

A large segment of the population is currently able to avoid use of marijuana because it is illegal.  When that changes our culture will suffer because so many more people will be using drugs and will be unable to resist the drug life style.  Right about now I am wondering what part of the advertising campaign of "Just Say No" that our leaders, or politicians and our voters do not understand.
